It seems to be go time for Speedy heading into the final stretch of what’s been a tough year for many personally and professionally.
Just recently having had the official opening launch for The Skate Hub, his indoor skate hub in Marlboro, Speedsta sat down with MacGee on the latter’s Podcast And Chill that premiered on 15 October 2020 to break down a few questions touching on his involvement and subsequent departure from the Popcast with MsCosmo, Scoop Makhathini, DJ Vigilante and DJ Dimplez behind the scenes. On the Podcast and Chill episode the 28-year old Vaal native, openly gives insight on his DJing and radio career, thought-processes and own behaviour on social media and within personal relationships in the entertainment industry as well as in his own life.
Referring to the Skate Hub venture as a childhood passion of his that he had been away from for about 15 years until his therapist suggested he take up a hobby to destress and recalls how his mother who would drop him off at the skate park as a kid now had came by to surprise him by attending the official launch.
15 October 2020 also marked a special day for DJ Speedsta after being recognized as the first Hip-Hop DJ in South Africa to receive a multi-platinum certification. His Tellaman, Shane Eagle, Frank Casino and Yung Swiss-assisted smash-hit Mayo has gone 9x Platinum while Zooci Coke Dope-produced collaboration “I Don’t Know” has come quite close at 7x Platinum with one more single “Combos Communicating” featuring Okmalumkoolkat has gone on to do well enough to be certified Gold. Speedy’s debut album “Bottlebrush Street” has sold quite impressively selling better than any Hip-Hop DJ album in South Africa’s history with the equivant of at least 30,000 units sold.
This all comes as the Metro FM DJ and LiveAMP host was to release his first single for 2020 at midnight on 16 October 2020. It seems the perfect time for this drop titled “Chosen One” featuring Teejay Mokoena and Yanga Chief, time will tell if the song goes on to do as well as some of its predecessors. All seems rosy, in gear and on the up-and-up for the brand DJ Speedsta, keep on killin’ em son!
